Thursday, December 19, 1929

Ann James, eldest daughter of Sarah and David James, was born in Hirwaun, South Wales, on April 30, 1846. She became a member of the Baptist church early in life.

On October 27, 1872, she was united in marriage to John W. Richards. To this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters: John and Ben, of Chariton Iowa; William, of Randall, Illinois; Mrs. C. P. Huxford, of Williamson, Iowa; and Mrs. Henry Whimpey, of Alpha, Illnois, who survive her.

Her husband and son, David, passed away three years ago.

She came to this country in 1882 and spent the rest of her life in Lucas, Wapello and Monroe counties.

She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Whimpey, of Alpha, Illinois, on December 12, 1929, aged 83 years, 7 months and 12 days.

Besides the children a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn her departure.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Chariton, Iowa on Sunday afternoon, December 15, Rev. Harry Secor officiating, assisted by Rev. I. J. Brame, of Indianola. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
