Ernest Miller, 91, of Vermillion, SD died Monday, January 12 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital.

Ernest was born October 15, 1917 in Yankton County to Alfred and Kristine (Jensen) Miller, who came to Gayville from Denmark in 1913. He went to work for farmers after graduating from 8th grade north of Vermillion.

Ernie rented A.K. Richardson's farm north of Vermillion until he was drafted in 1942. He served in the 104th Infantry Division under Terry Allen on the first ship to go directly to Europe, a three week excursion.

In 1948, after his discharge, he rented another farm, and needed a cook and hired man, and married Marlys Hult on November 25, 1948 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harry and a sister Betty Abraham.

He is survived by his wife Marlys of Vermillion, a brother Ralph Miller of Onawa, IA and a sister Eileen Iverson of Centerville, SD and several nieces and nephews. His wishes were to have no services.
