John Wade Starley was born in Fillmore, Utah May 9th, 1885. The son of John and Maggie Wade Starley. He grew up to young manhood in Fillmore, Utah, attending the schools in that place. In April 1908, he went to the Southern States to fill a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, where he labored in Georgia and Virginia conference two and a half years, returning to his old home in Fillmore, and on October 4th 1922, he married Miss Edna Louise Callister, daughter of Hon. Thos. C. Callister, of that place. The following children were born to them: Afton, Ann, Alice, Harold, Venita and Kenneth.

In May 1913, Mr. Starley moved to Delta, as manager of our Local Telephone Exchange, which position he held till the time of his death.

The passing away of Mr. Starley has cast a shadow of gloom over the entire county, for he was a man among men, he was a friend and a neighbor to all and to know him was to love him for his manly and honesty integrity. This sad incident will not soon be forgotten, because on July 28th, just nine weeks ago, his wife passed away at their home in Delta, with diphtheria. On September 1st he took his baby Kenneth to Salt Lake City for treatment for acute enteritis, and on the 13th he passed away and was brought home for burial. These two blows, which were enough to try the nerves of any person in good health. But Mr. Starley had been suffering for some time with heart trouble and he grew steadily worse. He was taken into Salt Lake City for treatment on September 3rd and died there at 4a.m., Ocober 2nd.

Mr. Starley is survived by five small children ranging in ages from 4 to 13 years of age and the following members of his immediate family: his father John Starley Jr., of Fillmore and following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Hattie Day, Fillmore; Mrs. Bertha Stevenson, Salt Lake City; wife of Dr. L.A. Stevenson; Thomas Starley, Kemmer, Wyo.; Claude Starley, Phoenix, Arizona and Orval Starley, Fillmore.

It is know that Mr. Starley carried one or more life insurance policies, but at the present time, the amounts have not been determined.
