Levi Rust served as a Private in Company A of the 150th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He was killed on July 3, 1863 and was initially buried on Henry Spangler's farm, on the north side of the field near the woods.

He was killed by the same minie ball that killed Private John P. Wing of Company A.

He enlisted in the Army on August 30, 1862 at Washington, New York.

He was 45 years of age at the time of his enlistment.

He had resided in Washington, New York.
