Junius is the son of Sidney Wilson and Mary Foy. Brother to Asynia and Carrie. Junius was deaf and for 8 years a student at the NC School for the Colored Blind and Deaf. Falsely charged with attempted rape of a family acquaintance he was deemed criminally insane and institutionalized at the NC State Hospital for the Colored Insane (now known as Cherry Hospital) in Goldsboro, NC. Following Eugenics fervor rampant at the time Asylum staff castrated and sterilized Mr. Wilson. For decades to come he worked on the hospital's Colony Farm as a "water boy" and then in the hospital car wash. His case came to outsiders' attention when guardianship was sought. Many advocates worked long and hard on Mr. Wilson's behalf and he eventually received a financial settlement and was allowed to spend the remainder of his days as a voluntary patient in a cottage on the hospital grounds.
