SAILOR US NAVY
WORLD WAR II

One of 24 African-American sailors interred in Golden Gate National Cemetery who perished in a huge explosion while loading two Liberty munition ships in Port Chicago on July 17, 1944, and whose remains were subsequently unidentifiable. Altogether, 320 men perished in the explosion.
