Ronald G. Francis was born on July 24, 1945 in Wellington, Texas to A. O. Francis and Imogene (Goodner) Francis. He passed away December 4, 2010 at his home at the age of 65 years, 4 1/2 months.
Ron grew up on the family ranch 17 miles southwest of Erick. He attended North Elm School through 5th Grade then transferred to Erick. He participated in the band and was active in sports, graduating from high school in 1963. He attended Oklahoma State University, Southwestern State College, and later received an Associate Degree in Computer Science from the Oklahoma City Branch of OSU. He served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He met and married Lena East on May 26, 1972. They made their home in Oklahoma City until 1974 when they moved to the Fancis ranch south-west of Erick. Ron worked at Ashland Chemical near Shamrock for several years. After the plant closed, they moved to Rockport, Texas. In 1986 they moved to Amarillo, Texas where their son Tyler was born. They lived in Tecumseh and Shawnee, Oklahoma before moving to Elk City in 2008. He grew up and was baptized in the First Christian of Erick.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Lena of the home; one son Tyler of Edmond,OK.; four brothers, Charley and Nona of Shamrock, TX., Jim of Amarillo, TX., Don and Marilyn of Erick, OK., Jon Paul and Sue of Warner Robbins, GA., and one close cousin John Earl Francis of Erick; Two sisters-in-law, Teresa and Van Coe of Shawnee OK., Sharon and Bill Gordon of Macomb, OK.; two brothers-in-law, Bill and Jean East of Bakersfield, CA., and Dewayne East of St. George, UT., several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday December 7, 2010 @ 2:00p.m. from the Elk City Community Church with Pastor Judy and Burl Timms officiating.
