Obituary from The Chatham Courier, Chatham, Columbia Co., NY, April 11, 1935:
Gale Services Held Saturday
Rites for Chathamite are Conducted at New Lebanon:
Funeral services for Miss Evie Laurania Gale, 68, of 161 Hudson avenue, Chatham, who died suddenly of a heart attack at her home last Wednesday after four days illness, were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church in New Lebanon with the Rev. Homer Silvernail, pastor, preaching the sermon. Burial was in Evergreens cemetery at New Lebanon.
Mrs. Gale was born in New Lebanon, the daughter of Bradford and Carrie Carpenter. At 28 years of age, she married A.D. Gale, of Pittsfield, who conducted a large harness shop on North street in that city. Later he sold this business and purchased a 300 acre dairy farm at West Pittsfield. Following his death on May 30, 1910, Mrs. Gale operated the farm for fifteen years with the help of Arthur Bryant.
Selling the farm in 1925, Mrs. Gale purchased the residence in Chatham and, Mr. Bryant remaining in her employ, she moved to this village where she resided ever since.
She was a lifelong member of the "White" church at New Lebanon and was active in its affairs until she married and left New Lebanon.
Bearers at the funeral Saturday were Frank Best, of Hudson; Albert Van Tassel, of Chatham; Roy Oles, of Chatham; Fred Engle, of Chatham; Aaron Garner, of Chatham, and Horace McGinnis, of Ghent. Mrs. Gale was buried in the family plot, the last of her family. Nearest survivors are cousins. Prior to the funeral, the home was thronged with visitors who paid her an impressive tribute.
