Gene was born in Asheville, NC on November 27, 1925, the son of Lucy S Smith Stepp and Henly Eugene Stepp Sr. Gene attended schools in Asheville, NC., and North Carolina State University for three years.
He was a member of the Air Force Sargents Assoc., Isis Shrine, VFW Post No 1786, Isis Greeters, Manhattan Shrine Club, Riley County Senior Center , Lafayette Lodge No. 16 AF and AM, and York Rite Bodies, and he was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 17 in Manhattan.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Stepp and his wife, Jan, of Manhattan, and Pat Stepp, of Manhattan; a step-daughter, Jacque Stepp,of Manhattan; and four grandchildren, Melinda Sue, Curtis Wayne, Anthony David and Logan Henly Stepp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dorothy Stepp and Eva Stepp; four sons, Rian, Gordon, Mike and Van; a daughter-in-law, Holly Stepp; and two brothers, James and Jack Stepp.
