Cuvier Lipscomb Egerton was the youngest son of Lucian Kearney Egerton and Nancy Ann Shaw Egerton. When he was just two years of age, his family moved from Denton, Texas (TX) to Clarendon, TX, where his father owned and managed the Lone Star Plant Nursery. In 1907, the Egerton family moved to a homestead five miles west of Nara Visa, New Mexico (NM). Cuby as he was called from childhood finished his first two years of school in Clarendon, TX.

Cuby received his elementary education at Obar Public School, Obar, NM. Although Cuby did not complete high school, he became well educated through self education.

Due to his desire to become self reliant, Cuby at an early age begin working on cattle ranches. In 1923, he acquired a ranch ten miles northwest of Nara Visa, NM. As a ranching pioneer, he faced many challenges, including affects of the Dust Bowl, which was a period of severe dust storms causing major ecological and agricultural damage to American prairie lands from 1930 to 1936. The phenomenon was caused by severe drought coupled with decades of extensive farming without crop rotation, fallow fields, cover crops or other techniques to prevent erosion.

To some degree, his ranching business was affected by The Great Depression, which was a severe worldwide economic depression. It started circa 1929 and lasted until the early 1940s. It was the longest, most widespread and deepest depression of the 20th century. The depression originated in the U.S., starting with the fall in stock prices that began circa September 4, 1929.

Nonetheless, Cuby forged ahead and for the next thirty years, he diligently worked to expand and improve his ranch and cattle business. He raised Herford cattle until 1957, when he changed to the Black Angus line.

On May 14, 1934, Cuvier Lipscomb Egerton married Zita Marie Rock and they resided on a ranch near Nara Visa.

Cuby became ill with symptoms of intestinal flu on October 5, 1963. He entered the Coon Memorial Hospital, Dalhart, Texas two days later. On October 8, he was transferred to the Northwest Texas Hospital, Dalhart TX, where he underwent surgery for intestinal obstruction. After the surgery, his heart began to fail and he passed away two days later. An autopsy revealed he died from a bacterial infection, which had entered his blood stream.

Cuby was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the NM Cattle Growers Association and the Angus Breeders Association. Cuby was known for his wonderful personality and sunny disposition.
