HEDGE George Oliver Hedge, Jr. passed peacefully from this life on August 9, 2010 in the company of his family. A two time cancer survivor, George taught all he encountered about the positive side of life. He earned his B.S. degree in Marketing and Management from Florida State University and shortly after graduation from FSU entered the Transportation Industry with the original Ryder Truck Lines and was promptly sent to Chicago. From Chicago, he was moved to N.W. Ohio for a time, then left RTL to return to the Jacksonville area where he was to work with several truck lines over nearly 30 years in Operations and Sales. The last several years of his working career were at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, retiring in May of 2009. Living in Macclenny since the mid 70's, he was fully involved in the community with volunteer work in the American Cancer Society, the Baker County School System Literacy and G.E.D. program, as President of the Baker County Chamber of Commerce 98-99, and served on the Baker County Medical Services Board of Directors from 93-10. George is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kay, and daughter Jennifer (Larry) Payne of Glen St. Mary, Brian (Nicole) Hedge of Jacksonville, and Oliver Hedge of Orlando, FL, also, grandchildren Karlie and Camryn Payne, and Dominick, Logan, Gabriel and Marcus Hedge. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Macclenny Ward, George has served many callings and was presently serving as the First Counselor in the Bishopric. In addition to his immediate and extended family, George enjoyed his relationships with many of his fellow Fletcher High School graduates.
