"MOORESBURG
On Jan. 13, Elder Samuel E. Dodson, one of the best men in our community, died. A wife and five children, two sons and three daughters, survive him. Mr. Dodson was 74 years, 1 month and 4 days old when he died. In 1854 he united with the M. E. Church, South. In 1861 he united with the M. P. Church, of which he was made class leader and preacher. In 1874 he was baptized by Elder W. C. Maupin into the Church of Christ and soon after was ordained a minister. His death is the loss of the surrounding community and all who knew him."
Married Mary Jane Taylor in Hawkins County, 12 Oct 1854.
