LeClaire - George W. Curlott Jr., a resident of LeClaire, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 11, 2007, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.

He was born May 30, 1925, in Annapolis, Md., the son of George W. and Ethel (Hopkins) Curlott Sr. In 1948, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Gill. He was later united in marriage to Constance F. (Hesse) Baumgarten in Sebring, Fla., on October 11, 1986.

During World War II, George served in the U.S. Army with the 284th Combat Battalion in Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

George retired in 1980 as an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor with the Alcoa Company where he had been employed for 20 years. His memberships included the Moose Lodge of Yulee, Fla., a life-member of the Disabled American Veterans, a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf and a member of the Bettendorf American Legion.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Connie; his daughters, Patricia C. Curlott of Marengo, Ill. and Janis (Junior) Green of East Moline, Ill.; his son, David (Lynn) Curlott of Long Grove, Iowa; his step-daughters, Suzanne Bratcher of LeClaire, Iowa and Roxanne (Jeffrey) Gentry of Long Grove; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Donna Mae Byrne of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; and his brothers, William Curlott of Elephant Butte, N.M. and James Curlott in Delaware. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cari VanBlair; his sister, Lavinia Bishop; and his brothers, Samuel Curlott and Allen Curlott.
