Retired Army Sgt. 1.C. Thomas F. Rider Jr., 47, was dead on arrival Monday at Peninsula General Hospital after being stricken at his home on the Old Ocean City Rd. with an apparent heart attack. Mr. Rider retired last April after 28 years in the Army.

He had been employed for the past year at Burger Chef in Salisbury. Mr. Rider was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princess Anne.

He was born in Salisbury, and was a son of the late Thomas F. and Myrtle A. Wallace Rider. Mr. Rider enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was in communications. His overseas tours of duty included Indo China, the Philippines, Europe and Okinawa.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise King Rider; two children, Floyd F. Rider, Salisbury, and Mrs. Katie Vincent, Three Rivers, Calif.; three stepchildren, Robert and Donald Brittingham, both of Salisbury, and Mrs. Brenda Simpson, Ocean City; two grandchildren and a brother and a sister, Reigart Rider and Mrs. Lorena Hudson, both of Salisbury.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Holloway Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Adkins Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 194 members.
