Darlene "DeeDee" Benton, 81, of Meridian, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010.

DeeDee was born on December 24, 1928 to Elsie and Roy Laughery in Nashua, Iowa. After graduating from Nashua High School she moved to San Diego, CA to attend San Diego State University. Her love of modeling, music, band, conducting and baton twirling landed her three National Baton Twirling Championships. She was the Head Majorette at SDSU and twirled for the L.A. Rams. DeeDee met and fell in love with Coach Carl Benton at SDSU.

DeeDee and Carl married in 1950 and have shared insurmountable love for each other for over 60 years. DeeDee's greatest accomplishment was having her two daughters, Kelli and Lori. She was the most loving, caring and devoted mother one could wish for. She was the "All American" picture perfect mom and wife. Her family was her life and she unselfishly spent her entire life loving and serving them.

She also loved to cook and entertain and was always prepared for a large crowd at a minutes notice. She loved all sports to include the SDSU Aztecs, San Diego Padres and Boise State.

In 1981 Ryan Hall was born. She deemed him her "pride and joy" as her only grandchild. For the last 29 years Ryan "lit up her life" everyday. DeeDee was so proud when Ryan married Debbie three years ago and loved spending special times with them.

In 2004 Carl and DeeDee relocated to Boise, Idaho to be close to Kelli, Lewis, Darren, Lori, Ryan and Debbie. No one fit the roll of daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma and sports fan like she did, and we will all miss her dearly. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Roy and her Sister Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Benton, D.Ed; brothers, Wayne Laughery, D.Ed and Larry Laughery; sister, Dixie Rosene; daughters Kelli Hall, and Lori Benton; and her pride & joy (grandson) Ryan Hall and his wife Debbie; and granddogs, Snickers, Peanut, Lucy, Lillie & Roxy.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Chapel of the Chimes.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 105 E. Carlton Ave. Meridian, ID 83642; 208-888-4454.
