Wilbur was an architect who graduated from the Columbia University School of Architecture and then apprenticed with the firm of McKim, Mead and White in NYC. He went to L'Ecole De Beaux Arts in Paris for additional studies. Returning to St. Louis and he taught for a year at Washington College before starting his own firm. During the Depression he was sent for by President Roosevelt to help plan the Federal Housing Administration and served as its chief architect in the office in St. Louis. He designed many public buildings among them the Chapel in St. John's Church, the church where The Rev. James W. Lee, Sr. presided.
