He purchased the Ocapilco Academy (about 6 miles north of Quitman) and converted it to a home.
It is not known exactly where he and both his wives are buried. However, since he owned the land on which this family graveyard is located and it has remained in the family ever since, it must be assumed that he and his second wife are buried here even though there is no marker.
Of his 5 sons born to his first wife, 3 were killed in the War: William Lacy Rogers died 19 Mar 1862 in Tazewell, VA; Uriah J. Rogers died 19 Oct 1864 at Cedar Creek battle in Virginia; and Mitchell A Rogers also died 19 Oct 1864 at Cedar Creek battle in Virginia
