He married Mary Louise Jesus sometime around 1900. Both Ernest and Mary Louise emigrated from Portugal to the Hawaiian Territory with their respective families on different dates. However, relatives state that theirs was an "arranged marriage". Ernest and Mary Louise had three children together in Hawaii; Angela, William August and Lillie Elise.
Ernest sailed from Honolulu abt.1926 to San Francisco where he resided at the home of his daughter Angela Cabral Gill and her family.
The 1930 United States Federal Census of San Francisco documents, that Ernest worked in construction as a Steam Shovel Operator. The 1910 census lists his occupation as plumber.
The obituary published in the San Francisco Examiner states that Ernest had two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Moniz and Mrs. Maria Silva. Ernest may also have had a brother named Tony Cabral. These other Cabral family members were living in Oakland, Alameda County, California at the time of Ernest's passing in 1952.
Ernest's grandson Charles Arthur "Mick" Gill is buried in the same plot as his Grandpa.
The little girls pictured with Ernest are his first two granddaughters, Priscilla and Aileen who are the daughters of Angela Cabral Gill and John Arthur Gill.
It is said that my Grandfather John dearly loved his father-in-law Ernest.
