Jacob was born in Loerich, Mappach, Baden, Germany. He spent his youth in his native country. In 1855 he came to America, locating in Highland, IL. During his residence in Highland he served the people in the capacity of constable, justice of the peace and deputy sheriff. About twelve years ago he moved to Kansas, locating near Dodge City. On October 2, 1890 he was married to Mrs. Amalia Streiff at that city. In July 1893, he returned to Highland where he soon after opened the Highland Hotel, which business he continued until his death. His wife, and six step children, and six children by a former marriage survive him.
