Wife of Friedrich Monken. They immigrated to Texas from Germany, arriving on the Neptune in 1845. When the winter ended, they attempted the difficult journey from the Texas port of Indianola to New Braunfels with their children and five of Friedrich's nephews who had arrived on a later ship. All of the family was ill from the living conditions and weather in Indianola. Along the way, Christina Sauer Monken and nephew Michael Fietsam, 1822-July 11, 1846 died and were both buried along Spring Creek, north of Victoria, Texas. Three more nephews -- William Fietsam, 1826-July 30, 1846; Friedrich Fietsam, 1828-Aug. 2, 1846; and Johann Joseph Fietsam, 1820-Aug. 3, 1846 – died were buried in Hochheim Cemetery, Hochheim, Texas.

Heinrich May 8, 1828-1846, and Rosina, July 22, 1826-Oct. 7, 1846, children of Christina and Friedrich Monken, also died along the journey. Rosina died in a horseback riding accident, trying to bring medicine to ailing members of her family and the Jones family, farmers near Seguin, Texas, who generously took care of the sick travelers.

Friedrich and surviving children, Elizabeth "Lisette" Maria, June 17, 1824-Apr. 3, 1890, Katharine Louisa Apr. 25, 1830-May 30, 1900, Barbara Oct. 13, 1832-Oct. 17, 1846, Friedrich Karl Jan. 1, 1834-?, Bernard Dec. 19, 1834-Oct. 17, 1911, and Maria Josepha, Jan. 1, 1840-1858, arrived in New Braunfels. Barbara, died soon after their arrival and was buried, at the New Braunfels Cemetery.

The surviving Fietsam nephew -- Joseph George Fietsam, born Feb 12, 1825 – was nursed back to health by the Jones family. He died 1906 in Weimar, Texas.
