Kent L. Arnold, age 81, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at a care home in Topeka. Kent was born October 30, 1929, in Mahaska, Kansas, the son of Paul and Mary Slavik Arnold.

He graduated from Mahaska High School and then Fairbury Junior College and became a Principal at Mahaska Grade School. He then entered the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He received his Bachelors Degree in teaching from Ottawa College and later received a masters degree from Emporia Teachers College.

He married Vera Pointer November 23, 1956, in Hubbell, NE. Kent worked as an educator and counselor for USD #501 in Topeka for over 30 years. He also worked part time as an independent insurance adjuster. Kent was a longtime and active member of the Crestview United Methodist Church. He was also an active member with the Northeast Kansas Korean War Memorial at Gage Park, where he served as treasurer. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Topeka. Kent spent the last several years caring for his wife, Vera.

Kent is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Vera; a son, Craig Arnold (Karin) of Topeka; two daughters, Glee Montgomery of Kansas City, KS, and Joni ONeill (Andy) of Raymore, MO; and four grandsons, Kyle (Abby) and Jay ONeill and Colby and Keaton Arnold.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Crestview United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends one hour before the services Tuesday from 10-11:00 a.m. He will lie in state Tuesday from noon 6:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.

Interment will be at the Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North East Kansas Korean War Memorial at Gage Park or Grace Hospice and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at davidsonfuneral.com.
