(SCOTTDALE, GA) Ethel Velma Daniel Mitchell, 97, Scottdale, GA, died Nov. 30, 2010.
Mrs. Mitchell was the youngest of four children, born to Ollie and Lula Gilley Daniel, Dec. 11, 1912, in Lamar, Randolph County, AL. Mrs. Mitchell grew up on a farm and learned well from her loving parents. She married Major Monroe Moore in 1931. Major Moore died in 1933. Mrs. Mitchell met her husband, Alvin, and they married in 1934. She and Mr. Mitchell had four children. She and her family moved to Scottdale in December 1949. Mrs. Mitchell went to work for Scottdale Mills as a cloth inspector and retired after 20 years.
Mrs. Mitchell was a devoted member of Prospect Methodist Church in Woodland, AL for 80 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Lee "Danny" Mitchell at age 2 1/2 years; husband Alvin A. Mitchell; a grandson; two great-grandsons; a daughter-in-law, Estelle Reed Moore; a son-in-law, Richard A. Pike; sister, Leva Mae Pilgrim; and brothers, Z. O. Daniel and Will Daniel.
She is survived by her sons, Conelia Q. Moore, Conyers, GA and Oliver and wife, Jean Mitchell of Covington, GA; daughters, Wilma Jean Mitchell Pike of Molden-on-the--Hudson, NY and Ft Myers, FL and Jann Mitchell Greene and husband, David,; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 4 at 1 p.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons, North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA with Elder Stagg McKay Greene, Rev. Ridley Parmer and Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Green Meadow Cemetery in Conyers.
