Fred Brenneman led an incredible life of faith and conviction. The key dates of his life tell of a man who was not be sitting still. His son in law, using Fred's journal, wrote the story of his life. (The frontisepiece pictured below) Millie his wife followed his lead throughout his journey. Fred first came to my attention when it was noted that having a meal with my parents-in-law, J. Lloyd Gingrich family in Evandale, Penn. he mentioned that while he was in India, Fred once visited with Gandhi and shared his faith with the Indian leader. As a teacher of world history this peaked my interest in Fred's life. In his retirement he bought land behind Evandale, on Shade Mountain, and built his final home. Fred attended, when not preaching elsewhere, Lauvers Mennonite Church. Fred died at his home, affectionately named Brennwood on January 28, 1977. My sister-in-law, remembered the funeral, there had been a large snow storm after his death and before the funeral. Some of Fred's extended family stayed at the J. Lloyd Gingrich home, where I am writing this from. It was Fred and Millie's belief that they be buried where ever they died. Fred's remains were hence buried at Lauvers Cemetery on a very cold and windy February day. Millie later moved by a son and died in Kansas. Her headstone has her's and Fred's names but only she is interred there.
