Mrs. Mary Lee Rankin, 88, of Throckmorton, mother of Mrs. Fred Harrell of Olney, died following a four year illness.

A prominent pioneer of Throckmorton county, Mrs. Rankin had lived in Throckmorton County since 1870. She and her husband, George Rankin moved to Throckmorton from Gatesville. Her husband preceded her in death.

Rankin was originally employed on the Swenson Ranch, but they later moved into Throckmorton where they owned / operated the Rankin Hotel.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Survived by five sons - Rob and Jack Rankin of Throckmorton, George Rankin of Victoryville, CA; Ike Rankin of Dyer, NV; Albertine Rankin of Artesia, NM, four daughters - Mrs. Harrell of Olney, Mrs. G.D. Smith of Throckmorton, Mrs. R.D. Rutherford of Mineola, Mrs. Charles Cummings of Artesia, NM; two sisters - Mrs. Guy Baker of Tucson, AZ and Mrs. Carl Huff of Throckmorton; three brothers - Wess Tharp and Doss Tharp of Throckmorton; Blue Tharp of Tucson, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
