Rex Kasler, 84, Dies; Services Set Tuesday
A resident of Zanesville, Rex Edward Kasler, 84, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Wells Community Hospital, where he had been a patient six weeks. Death was due to cancer.
Mr. Kasler served in the Army Air Corps during World War I and was General Billy Mitchell's private chauffeur.
He was a member of Broadripple Lodge 643 F&AM in Indianapolis, Scottish Rite-Valley of Fort Wayne, American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and a charter member of Zanesville Lions Club.
In 1961 he retired as district manager of Commonwealth Life Insurance Co. Mr. Kasler was a member of Zanesville United Methodist Church.
Born Feb. 10, 1899 in Marion, he was a son of Herbert B. and Minnie M. Cole Kasler. His marriage Feb. 18, 1922 at Six Mile parsonage was to Inez T. Helms, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James H. Kasler of Momence, Ill., an American flying hero of three wars and a seven-year Vietnam prisoner of war, and Thomas H. Kasler of Newport Beach, Calif.; a brother, Glen Kasler of Frankfort, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Another son, Richard E. Kasler, died of a heart attack March 22 while visiting here from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with his father and family.
Calling will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home in Markle where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Howard Cress will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Warren.
The family prefers memorials be sent to the Zanesville United Methodist Church building fund.
