"Death of Joseph Abrams
Funeral services were held here Sunday morning at 10 o'clock for Mr. Joseph Abrams, 72, who passed away Friday, March 10, at his apartment in the residence of Miss Emma Bee, where he had lived for the past two years with his wife and 12 year old daughter, Miss Joyce Abrams.
Mr. Abrams' early life was spent in Brookhaven, but years ago he moved to St. Louis where he was engaged in business, returning to Mississippi about 4 years ago to manage one of the Abrams stores at Bude. His health falling, he retired from active business and came back to Brookhaven where his only remaining brother, Mr. Sam Abrams, lives.
Above the average in intelligence, Mr. Abrams made many friend by his genial and affable disposition, and many cherish the delightful hours of companionship passed in his company.
While his death was not entirely unexpected, as he had been in ill health for several years, it was a great blow to relatives and friends to learn that this scholarly gentleman had passed to his reward.
Mr. Abrams is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Silverman of St. Louis, and Miss Joyce Abrams. Mrs. Silverman, who was recently bereaved by the loss of her husband was unable to attend the funeral on account of illness.
Other surviving relatives are one brother, Mr. Sam Abrams of Brookhaven; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Kemp of Hazlehurst, Mrs. M. Schwartz of Eudora, Ark, and Mrs. Rosa Berger of Brookhaven.
A large crowd of friends from Brookhaven and nearby towns attended the funeral services, held at the Perkins Funeral Home and conducted by Mr. Max Lewenthal of Canton; who eloquently and beautifully told of the life and character of the departed. Interment was made in the Jewish cemetery at Rosehill.
Pall bearers were, Active --Clayton Abrams, Clifford Abrams, Joe Berger, and Louis Schlesinger, Paul Kemp and Carroll Kemp, all nephews of the deceased. Honorary pall bearers; Eli Buchman, Harry Samuels and Dr. J.R. Markette."
