Andrew Maxwell, 75, of Riceville, Iowa, native of the Traer community who spent nearly half of his life here, died in a hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. He had been in the hospital there less than a week, but after that he had been in the Riceville hospital 10 days or more and seriously had been sick at his home. He was afflicted by a coronary condition. An attack of pneumonia hastening his death. Funeral services, held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church at Riceville, were attended by a group of Traer relatives, including Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Earley, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cherveny, Robert _____ and Mrs. Thomas McEwen, and the Riceville relatives accompanied the body to Traer for burial about 4 p. m. in Buckingham cemetery. Hesperia lodge, of Traer, of which Mr. Maxwell was a member, conducted the Masonic rites at the grave. John Ames was acting master, the Rev. Carl Bast was chaplain. Casket bearers were nephews— Thomas McEwen, J. C. Young, Robert and Leonard Cherveny, all of Traer, David Keith, of Hudson, and ____ Tallman, of Mechanicsville.
Maxwell, known as "Andy," by his friends here, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maxwell, early settlers of the Traer community. Andy and a brother John married daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William Davis of Traer, in 1910. Andrew's wife, the former Mae Davis, survives, John's wife, the former Alma Davis, died at Riceville in 1942. Andrew and wife moved from the Traer community to Riceville in 1913. Andy was active in an insurance business in that town until his death. They came to Traer frequently to visit relatives and friends. He was a brother of Mrs. Frank Stark of Traer. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers besides John.
