Ashley M. Perkins, 88, a former long-time Upton Town Treasurer and Collector, died early Sunday, February 3, 2008 in Bolton Manor Nursing Center in Marlboro after a period of declining health.

His wife of 63 years, Elinor A. (Hall) Perkins, died in 2004.

Mr. Perkins was born in Upton, the son of Ernest and Lema (Daily) Perkins. He was a lifelong town resident and a 1940 graduate of Upton High School. He worked in quality control at several area companies and then as a custodian in Mendon-Upton schools before retiring in 1982. He was the Town Treasurer and Collector from 1964 to 1982 and also served as Town Auditor and on the Upton Historical Commission.

A past president of the Upton Historical Society and former scoutmaster of Upton Boy Scout Troop 132, he was also a member of the United Parish of Upton, TriValley Bassmasters, and the Elks. He loved fishing, traveling, and gardening, and was an avid card player and bowler on the Upton Men's Bowling League.

He leaves one son, Robert A. Perkins of Upton; three daughters, Nancy LeClaire and Sally Dupre, both of Upton, and Judith Rooks of Pinellas Park, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
