Obituary

Lydia J. Zimmerman, daughter of George and Anna Shanks, was born in Wapello county, Iowa, on Feb. 21, 1865, and died at Corydon Iowa, on Oct. 27, 1948 at the age of 83 years, eight months, and six days.

She came to Wayne county, Iowa with her parents at a very early age and has resided in this county since that time. She was united in marriage with Joseph A. Zimmerman on Jan. 5, 1899 and moved with him to their farm north of Corydon where they lived until 1920 when they came to Corydon to make their home.

Two children, George A. and Barabara Ann Zimmerman, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman. Barbara Ann, whose life held forth much promise, departed this life on April 21, 1918 at the age of 17 years. George A. survives her.

Mr. Zimmerman preceded her in death on April 21, 1937.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a Christian as her life plainly demonstrated. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a good neighbor and a host of friends will greatly miss her. She believed in and practiced frugality and industry and took great joy in doing her work as well as it could be done. She was a good citizen and will long be remembered in this community.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, Oct. 29 from the Wolf funeral home, with the Rev. W. D. Wyatt, pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Lee Cobel, Mrs. W. H. Piper, Mrs. Rena Cunningham and L. L. Fry, with Mrs. R. S. Allred at the piano.

Pallbearers were Marshall Whiteley, Russell Whitely, H. F. Garrett, R. R. Roush, M. T. Grogan, and E. E. Poston. Mrs. Frank Coates, Sr., Mrs. Frank Coates, Jr., and Mrs. Olin Bumgartner had charge of the flowers. Burial was made in Corydon cemetery.
