FORT SCOTT — Doris June "Billie" Cole, age 88, a former resident of Cavalry Crossing Apartments in Fort Scott, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the Arma Care Center in Arma, Kansas. She was born June 12, 1922, in Ada, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward Rice McCoy and Daisy Herrin McCoy. She married Sam Douglas Cole on March 26, 1950, at Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1966. Mrs. Cole had worked as a librarian at the Fort Scott Public Library for over twenty years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, painting and cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Keith and husband, Tom, Arma, Kansas; two grandsons, Doug Shepherd and Shane Shepherd and wife, Candi; and two great-grandchildren Caedence and Zachary Shepherd. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack McCoy and four sisters, Kathryn Main, Ivan Herrin, Juanita McCoy and Emma Dell McCoy.

Pastor Mansour Khajehpour will conduct graveside services for Doris Cole at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Scott Public Library and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at www.cheneywitt.com.
