June Elizabeth Hannig was born May 23, 1922 in Cuba Township of Barnes County, ND, the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Ratzlaff) Greb.
She attended rural school and then later moved into Valley City and lived with her grandmother while she attended Valley City High School. Following her graduation, she was employed at the Piggly Wiggly Store in Valley City.
On June 16, 1946, she was united in marriage with James Hannig at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. The couple made their home on a farm in Noltimier Township of Barnes County where they farmed and raised their four children. They retired from farming in 1992 and moved into Valley City in 1998. James died in 2003.
June was a member of the Noltimier Homemakers Club, the local Birthday Club, and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Her grandfather, Casper Greb, was one of the founding members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, fishing and hunting, playing cards, and canning and baking. Friends and relatives were always welcome to stop in for coffee or a meal.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters: James (Suzanne) Hannig, Tom Hannig, and Jennie (Keith) Lonski all of Valley City and Henrietta (Randy) Hagen of Hutchinson, MN; 4 sisters, Arlene Johnson and Joyce Holden both of Bismarck, ND, Delores (Chet) Maine, Kelso, WA, and Clarice (Lloyd) Overbo, Moorhead, MN; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a special friend Dorie Burdick of Valley City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Vernon Greb, and a granddaughter, Lauren Hagen.
