Businessman. One of 5 Armours who developed Armor and Company Meat Packing. In 1871 John Plankington and Phillip Armour opened a small slaughterhouse in Kansas City. The company already had two large packinghouses, one in Milwaukee and one in Chicago. John Plankington retired from Plankington & Armour in 1885 and Armour Brothers was organized. Phillip Danforth Armour, founder; Simeon B. Armour, eldest brother; A. Watson Armour, and his sons, Kirkland B. Armour and Charles W. Armour, made up the firm. The name was changed to Armour & Co. in 1910. The plant grew till it had approximately 90 acres of floor space, and employed about 5,000 people.
