Actress. Born Lillian Ann Herdan, Sara was an American motion picture actress of the 1950s and 60s, most notably Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 thriller "Rear Window." She also appeared in "Carrie" (1952), "Spring Reunion" (1957), the gritty crime drama "The Naked Street" (1955), and had uncredited vocal appearances in the Bing Crosby and Bob Hope classic "The Road to Morocco" (she's the voice of Mabel the Camel) and Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" (as a telephone operator). Prior to films she was a much sought after voice actress on radio during the 1930s and 40s. She is probably best remembered as Mabel the telephone operator on Jack Benny's radio show. Others might remember her voice from classic Warner Bros. cartoons such as the Italian Momma Buzzard in "The Bashful Buzzard," Mayzie the Lazy Bird in "Horton Hatches the Egg," Irish-toned Kansas City Kitty in "We the Animals, Squeak," the surprised Mother Gorilla at the end of "Baby Bottleneck," and even Walter Lantz's Andy Panda among many others.
