Janet Simmons is buried in an unmarked grave [originally marked with fieldstones that are now piled up at the edge of the cemetery] along with husband Silas and son Thomas.

Howard Simmons was able to prove that the three were buried here with a reasonable certainty. In 1936 George Simmons [son of Benjamin Franklin Simmons, son of Silas Simmons] took Howard to Old Enon Baptist Church and told him that the three were buried there. At that time the fieldstones were still in place. Howard Simmons died 01 Sep 1999.

A memorial marker was placed by some family members, however, the inscription is not completely correct.

There is no proof that Janet's last name was Freeman nor that her nickname was Jenny. The only official record known to exist is the 1850 Perry Co, MS census where she is simply listed as Janet Simmons, age 55, born in SC [date of birth would be abt. 1795]. There was a family history written in the 1970s [Mack Simmons, now deceased] and one written in the 1990s [Howard F. Simmons, deceased and John E. Simmons] that record Janet's name as Janet Freeman with the nickname Jenny. There is no source for this information. There are three letters written in the 1950s By Stuart Simmons, Pearl Entrekin and Liddie Mae Blackburn that state Janet was either a Freeman, McCardle or a McCarter [these letters were written to the government in hopes of receiving monies from the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. They were trying to prove their lineage to Janet because she was supposedly a Choctaw Indian, this too has never been proven].

Janet died before the 1860 census was taken.
