Obituary from The Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - August 3, 1959:
REXBURG - Mrs. Elizabeth Dickson McArthur Welch, 89, a resident of Fremont County since 1896, died at a Rexburg rest home Saturday evening from causes incidental to old age.
She was born to John Dickson and Sarah Elizabeth Abbott McArthur at Paradise, Cache County, Utah on March 28, 1870. That same spring the family moved to Wellsville where they lived for eight years, returning to Paradise where she grew to womanhood. As a young girl, and being the oldest daughter in the family, she assisted her mother in knitting and sewing for the other members of the family and she was also very talented as a singer. She was a member of a quartet of the McArthur family which sang for funerals, church functions, and other activities. Mrs. Welch sang soprano in the quartet.
She was united in marriage to William Wallace Welch at Paradise, Utah, December 29, 1887. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple June 28, 1889.
Following their marriage they moved to Bennington, Idaho building a small home there. In the summer of 1896 they moved to Wilford. After arriving at Wilford, they traded one of their teams of horses for a small two-room log house. Mr. Welch was engaged in farming and also as a butcher for Tom Birch who operated a store at Wilford during these times. Elizabeth's skill at sewing, knitting, and hat making was well known in the community.
Mr. Welch died May 22, 1920 and following his death she continued to live at Wilford, spending some of her winters at Brigham City, Utah. In 1938 she sold her home, moving to St. Anthony where she has since resided. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities during her life.
Six children were born to Elizabeth and William Welch. Three preceded their mother in death. Surviving are John William (Bill) Welch, St. Anthony; Mrs. Eliza Welch Birch, Wilford, and Stanley Welch, Shelley. There are also 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren surviving.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: Dave McArthur, Buhl; Mrs. Salie Smith, Tooele, Utah; James McArthur, St. Anthony; Mrs. Florence Terry, Rexburg; and Edith Mains, California.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the St. Anthony Second Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Albert Parker officiating. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
