Andrew J. Cron died Sunday morning at his home on East Main street, after a long illness. He had been in failing health for more than two years and was compelled to give up business affairs a year ago last October. A progressive paralysis was the cause of his illness and death. Mr. Cron had been for many years actively engaged in business in this city and has shared in its prosperity. Twenty-five years ago, with R. B. Kills and others, he organized the Cron & Kills Company, now the Cron-Kills Co., and engaged in the manufacture of furniture. The business has steadily grown in magnitude and is now one of Piqua's foremost industries. Mr. Cron was born in Piqua, July 1, 1852, and was just one day past his 53rd birthday the day he died. All his life has been spent in Piqua, with the exception of two years in Dawson, Shelby county, where he was engaged in the saw mill business with his brother, Henry Cron. Returning to Piqua, he entered the employ of the L. C. & W. L. Cron Co. as a cabinet maker, remaining with them until 1880, when he left to organize the Cron & Kills Company. Mr. Cron was married July 31, 1873, to Miss Almeda Noland, of this city. To them were born ten children, six sons and four daughters, of whom eight are living. One son was killed by a railroad accident a few weeks ago and a daughter died in infancy. They have seen their family growing up to years of maturity and to welcome one grandson to the family circle. He leaves also two brothers; Mayor L. C. Cron, and Henry Cron, both of Piqua; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Thomas, of Shelby County. He was for many years a member of Piqua lodge, No. 8, Miami Encampment I. O. O. F. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Grace M. E. Church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Louis Neth. The members of Piqua lodge, Miami Encampment and the employees of the Cron-Kills Co. will attend in a body. Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
