World War I veteran lost during the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane while employed by the Veterans Work Program. Served in the Navy from 8 August 1918 to 25 April 1919, honorably discharged. Body identified by fingerprints and buried in a mass grave at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Miami, Florida on 8 September 1935. Wife, Georgiana Wimmer; children, Mary Lucella Wimmer and Donna Therese Wimmer; of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Walter was buried in a mass grave on Sep 8, 1935. For over 80 years his grave was left unmarked. In 2015-16 a granite marker was placed after the VA approved an interim policy bypassing the next of kin restriction.
