Archie Robert Caddell, son of Jonah and Clara (Bradley) Caddell, was born on April 13, 1917 in Clyde, Missouri. When he was one year old, Archie moved with his parents to a farm outside of Logan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa, and attended country school near Logan, Iowa. After school, Archie helped his father on the farm and later moved into Portsmouth where he worked at the elevator for six years.

On January 26, 1937, Archie was united in marriage to Adeline Hein in Portsmouth, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Bonnie, Robert, and Marlene. After their wedding, Archie and Adeline moved to Westphalia, Iowa, for a short time where Archie worked as a painter. He later moved to Harlan where he started his own painting business and was an exterior and interior painter and decorator. He continued his painting business until his retirement in 1975.

Archie enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, and fishing with his wife. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan

Archie died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety-one years, eleven months, and eleven days. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Harvey, Ollie, Chester, and Bonnie.

He is survived by his wife Adeline of Harlan; their children: Bonnie Rasmussen of Harlan, Iowa; Robert Caddell and his wife Regena of Vail, Iowa; Marlene and her husband Gary Doyel of Humbolt, Iowa; eight grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Rev. Bob Hoefler celebrated the 10:00 AM service. Burial was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Portsmouth, Iowa, with Guy Doyel, Doug Koerselman, Chad Doyel, Doug Rasmussen, Randy Rasmussen, and Randy Sorenson serving as casket bearers.
