Funeral services for August Myers, 92, of Richmond, the first president of the Board of Directors of Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Calvary Episcopal Church in Richmond, with the Rev. Steve Pope officiating. Burial followed at Morton Cemetery.
Mr. Myers died Friday in Richmond. A native of Richmond, he was born Nov. 23, 1898 to Leon and Winnifred Myers.
In addition to being one of the original directors and president of Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital, he was a director of Houston Lighting & Power Company and was president and chairman of the First National Bank in Richmond. Mr. Myers also was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and Morton Masonic Lodge #72 AF&AM. He worked toward the founding of the Richmond State School and continued in his support of the school through the years. He was an active member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Texas. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Myers of Richmond; daughters, Mary Ann Carrico and Dorothy Myers Harrison, both of Houston; grandchildren, August E. Shouse, Mary Catherine Shouse White, and Earl Booth Shouse; great-grandchildren, William B. Shouse, Edward Shouse, Tucker Shouse, Matthew White, Mark White, Robert Shouse, and Gregory Steward.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or to Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital.
