THEODORE LUHN.
On Friday, Sept. 13, at the age of 82 years and 6 months, Theo. Luhn died after a life active until the end came. Mr. Luhn came to Texas from Germany when a small child. At 21 years of age he served Austin County as a deputy Sheriff under Sheriff G. W. Johnson. In 1857, while still holding this office the people of Beat 5 elected him constable. In later life, he moved to his farm in the river bottom about 10 miles from Bellville where he lived many years. More than 20 years ago he moved to Needville and later to Richmond. Apparently fascinated by the Brazos, he again located near it's banks on a fertile farm he purchased. Burial took place at Richmond Sept. 14, those who attended from here being: D. Willrodt, Ernest and Miss Meta Willrodt, Mrs. Wm. Willrodt and son Reese, Mrs. A. Bechert, Mrs. Paul Meissner, Mrs. Ben Dickehut and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ueckert. Father, Fredrich W. Luhn.

Theodore is listed on the 1880 Austin County Census. Probably had no children. F.W. Luhn wrote about his experiences in Texas (probably published in 1849 and then reprinted in 1925 in a New Braunfels newspaper or book). Based on this report, he apparently left Hamburg or Bremem by ship (The Bremem Steamship Line) and went to New York. He then took a ship (J.H. Brower and Co.) to Galveston. He settled on a farm near Bellville in 1848. He married Bertha H. Herfurth December 5, 1874 in Austin County, Texas.
