Parents:
John S. Wood (1798-1862)
Rebecca Belt Wood (1804-1840)

From the journal of Nancy Cedenia, daughter of Daniel and Mary Wood Bagley.

Mary's parents were Latter-day Saints. They moved to Jackson County, Missouri, in 1837. Here they passed through the trials and persecutions to which the Mormons were subject to. In 1839 they were driven into Illinois. They settled in Hancock County, but their homes were burned over their heads. They were compelled to move to Nauvoo.

Mary's mother, Rebecca, died when Mary was three years of age because of the mobbings and drivings. Mary received no education, which was always a great sorrow to her. She and her sister, when they were old enough, had to work away from home for a living.

Mary's father, John Wood, moved his family to Iowa. Here Mary met and married her cousin, Daniel Bagley, May 10, 1849. Daniel and Mary started across the plains June 8, 1853 and arrived in Salt Lake City Sep. 17, 1853 with the Daniel A. Miller/John W. Cooley Company.

They settled in Grantsville where they made their home with two little girls, Melissa and Cedenia, were their family, until called by Brigham Young in 1864 to help settle the Dixie Southern Utah country in 1877. They were called from Dixie by Erastus Snow to help settle the country in Arizona when it was wilderness. They lived in Arizona until 1895 when, on account of her husband's health, they were released, where they moved to Springville, where they made their home.

Mary suffered through many privations and sorrows in her life, but she never became morbid or cross; she always had a smile. In May, 1906, Mary Wood Bagley was taken ill with leakage of the heart--Dropsy--from which she suffered greatly until death came to her relief July 27, 1906. Her funeral services were held in the Latter-day Saints meeting house.
