Cecelia (Generous) Bennett passed away peacefully at her home in Manchester on December 1, 2010.

The widow of John F. Bennett, Sr., Cecelia was born January 12 "as the noon whistle was blowing" in North Windham, Connecticut, where she grew up.

She met and fell in love with "that boy from upstate New York." They married, made their home in Windham, Connecticut, and had seven children, in whom they instilled the value of honesty, hard-work, and education.

Cecelia devoted her life to her family - her children, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. As a young couple, Cecelia and John won dance contests and enjoyed attending hockey games in Springfield, Massachusetts and University of Connecticut (then Storrs College) football games at the Armory field. A lifelong fan of UConn sports, she later enjoyed attending games at Memorial Stadium and Rentschler Field. Also an avid Red Sox fan, she attended a game at Fenway Park as recently as this past summer with her daughters and grandson.

Her father Henry Generous, Sr., was a professional athlete who played baseball and boxed. Her mother Delia Roberts Generous was a nurse. A tightknit family, Cecelia was very close to her parents and siblings, Henry Generous, Jr., Anna Generous Spiller, Alfred Generous, a World War II bomber pilot and Oliver Generous, a World War II fighter pilot. The Generous and Bennett families maintained a strong affiliation with the North Windham First Congregational Church. Her family was Cecelia's greatest joy.

Cecelia is survived by: six of her children, Muriel Bennett Lucas, John F. Bennett, Jr. and wife Jane, Frederick W. Bennett II, Dixie-Sue Bennett Larned, Candy A. Bennett, and Jacqueline Cecelia Bennett; grandchildren, Jim Lucas, Thomas Lucas and wife Holly, Kathleen Lucas Mangano and husband Joe, Maureen Lucas, Lance Bennett and wife Katherine, Jill Bennett Sterkin and husband Doyle, Eric Bennett and wife Linda, Mike Larned and wife Melane, John Larned,Sr., Debbie Bennett Landeck and husband Wayne, Glen Bennett, Jr., Donna Bennett Martin and husband Tom; great-grandchildren, Kathleen Miller, Jared Mangano, Preston Bennett, Joshua Sterkin, Jack Bennett, Lillian Bennett, Michelle Larned, Mary-Ann Larned, Ariel Larned, John Larned, Jr., Daniel Landeck, Katie Landeck, Nathan Landeck, Kayleigh Bennett, Keri Bennett, Tommy Martin, Marie Martin, Demi Martin; great-great-granddaughter Sofia Landeck; as well as, beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Glen Oliver Bennett, Sr., her parents and siblings.

Her family will receive friends and relatives at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Route 195, Willimantic, on Monday (December 6, 2010) from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in the North Windham Cemetery.
