Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll Jr., 68, of 274 Carroll Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center after several months of failing health. A native of Danville, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ruth Gilbert Carroll, who survives, and the son of Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll Sr., who survives, and the late Mrs. Annie Lee Wood Carroll. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Caswell County Schools and graduated from North Carolina State University. He attended Purley United Methodist Church. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, where he served in market development and was coordinator of county agricultural fairs. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Yanceyville include two sons, Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll III of Greensboro and Mr. James Gilbert Carroll of Archdale; a brother, Mr. Sidney Irvin Carroll of Providence; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Hooper Funeral Home Chapel in Yanceyville by Dr. Floyd Morrow and the Rev. Ken Clark. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 this evening and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1005 Bullard Court, Suite 105, Raleigh, N.C. 27615.
