Rachel was 33 years old and William was 29 years old when Joseph was born. Joseph was also welcomed to the family by his 3 older siblings : Sarah, Moses & Susan.
Joseph grew up helping his father on the family farm. These learned skills were very helpful to him during the years that he farmed and managed livestock himself.
He came to Schuyler County, Illinois in the early 1870's.
This is the time frame in which he met and then married Miss Elizabeth Jane Brooks on December 28, 1873 in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois . She was the daughter of Mary Ann (Whiteman) and John Brooks.

Joseph W. Kellum was the County Representative on the County Board of Supervisors of McDonough County for the Industry Township in 1908 and 1909.
On June 18, 1922 Joseph was taken to Chicago Cook County Hospital for the removal of cataracts from both eyes. He stood the operation nicely, but died on July 1st. The expense of the operation & the trip were made possible by his many friends in an endeavor to cure him.
Joseph was 73 years 13 days old when he passed away.
Joseph William Kellum was buried in the older section of the Industry Cemetery. His wife Elizabeth, passed away 10 months later & was buried next to her Husband of 49 years.
