The Smithville Herald, Smithville, Mo. 12-10-1908:
Miss Nellie Meeks, sole survivor of the Meeks family, which was murdered in 1895 near Milan, Mo., by the Taylor boys, is now the bride of Rufus Richardson of El Reno, Okla. Miss Meeks was 9 years old at the time her father, mother, brothers and sisters were killed by the murderous Taylors. She was knocked on the head with an axe, but survived to tell the horrible story and see one of the murderers hanged. Both the brothers were convicted and sentenced to be hanged, but one of them escaped from the Carroll county (Mo.) jail and was never captured.
