Henry R. LaBarge, 73, of 23 Becky Ave., died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Saranac Lake General Hospital where he had been a patient since June 2nd. Death followed a long illness.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Msgr. Edmund H. Dumas, parochial vicar at St. Alphonsus Church at 11 a.m. Thursday. Members of the Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus, with which he was affiliated, served as an honor guard at the Rennell Funeral Home, and as pall bearers. Interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
He was born in Tupper Lake on Sept. 22, 1912, a son of William and Isabelle Amell LaBarge, and attended the local schools.
On October 16, 1937 he was married at St. Alphonsus Church to Miss Gertrude Peets, who survives.
Mr. LaBarge was employed as caretaker at the American Legion Mountain Camp on Big Tupper Lake for about twelve years. Thereafter he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 106, in the Albany and Plattsburgh areas. The family returned to Tupper Lake twelve years ago. Mr. LaBarge was a lifelong hunting and fishing enthusiast, and a member of the local Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Richard LaBarge of Lexington Park, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Schiff of Belmont, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; also three brothers, Napoleon and Roland LaBarge, Tupper Lake, and Leon LaBarge of Cypress, Texas; and five sisters: Mrs. Joseph (Lena) Villeneuve of Gouverneur; Mrs. James (Rita) Merchant of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; Mrs. Edna DeGone, Tupper Lake; Mrs. Ralph (Emmaline) Schiavone of Norwood; and Mrs. Frank (Jeannette) Bourdage of Cleveland, N.Y.
Memorial donations to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad, Adirondack Adult Center or the American Cancer Society will be appreciated.
