Martina Jane Davis Jones

Martina Jane Davis Jones, age 62, 328 E. 6th St., passed away Friday, November 26, 2010, at Hamot Medical Center. She was born in Laurel, Miss., on December 18, 1947, daughter of Celestine Bell Davis and the late Charles L. Davis. She was a resident of Erie for 58 years, moving here as a young child with her family.

She received an A.S. degree in Dental Technology and a B.S. degree in Nursing with a minor in Geography from Edinboro University and a B.A. degree in Social Work from Gannon University.

She had been employed as a Caseworker for the Erie County Government. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha â€" Gamma Sigma Sorority.

A faithful member of Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church who loved God, Martina was active in the Missionary Board, the Drama, Mime, Nursing and Special Project Ministries, the Silent Praise Team and the Food Pantry.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, decorating cakes, and watching movies (especially the Syfy Channel). She loved music (gospel, jazz and R&B), dancing, reading and sweets. She was also a DJ for WOIC.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles L. Davis, Jr. and Edward E. Davis.

In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memory a son, Teron Leavant Davis (wife Janette Marie) of Erie; three daughters, Renita Lynette Chapman (husband James) and Marieka Lashay Jones, all of Erie, and Shauna Delise Douglas (husband Curt) of Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters, Selestie Davis of Erie, and Scottie Lee Davis of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two aunts, Katie Bell Anderson of Erie and Pinka Mae Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2624 German St., and may attend a service at the church on Saturday, 1 p.m., with Bishop Jesse N. Gavin officiating.

Interment in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
