"Death of an Aged and Estimable Lady.---We regret very much to report the death of Mrs. Lucy Johnson (sic), the estimable widow of the late William Johnson (sic), which occurred at the home of her son, Mr. John W. Johnson (sic), near Salem, on Tuesday night last, at the advanced age of seventy-nine years. Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the lato Col Elijah McClanahan, and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends and relatives for her amiable Christian character. The funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) evening, at 2 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church, of which she was at the time of her death the oldest living member, by the pastor, Rev. Dr. E. C. Gordon, after which her remains, followed by many mourners, were interred in East (sic) Hill cemetery."  Published in the Salem Times-Register (Virginia), Vol 22, #23, dated 10 Feb 1888 (see photo).
