On the 1850 Dist. 57, Roanoke, Virginia census, I found farmer William Johnston, 48; other Johnstons: LUCY A, 40; Elizabeth, 21; Agnes L, 19; John, 14; Ann, 12; Emma J. 9; James, 3 and Adassa, 1, all Virginia born.
On the 1860 Roanoke, Virginia census, I found farmer LUCY Johnston, 43; other Johnstons: married manager John, 26; married Sarah, 27; Emma, 18; Hedassah, 12; James, 14 and Thomas, 8, all Virginia born. They resided next to the Josiah Johnston (age 56) family.
On the 1870 Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia census, I found farm laborer William Webber, 26 and Lucy Webber, 25; Catherine Webber, 1 and LUCY Johnston, 64, all Virginia born. They lived between James Johnston, 24, Thomas Johnston, 19 and Dassah Johnston, 22.
"Death of an Aged and Estimable Lady.---We regret very much to report the death of Mrs. Lucy Johnson (sic), the estimable widow of the late William Johnson (sic), which occurred at the home of her son, Mr. John W. Johnson (sic), near Salem, on Tuesday night last, at the advanced age of seventy-nine years. Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the lato Col Elijah McClanahan, and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends and relatives for her amiable Christian character. The funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) evening, at 2 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church, of which she was at the time of her death the oldest living member, by the pastor, Rev. Dr. E. C. Gordon, after which her remains, followed by many mourners, were interred in East (sic) Hill cemetery."
