Daniel Flook Yancey , 91, of 241 N. Main St., Broadway, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Our Shenandoah Home, where he had lived since October.

Mr. Yancey was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Layton Lee and Elizabeth Sellers Yancey .

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and owned Broadway Motor Company since Jan. 1, 1935. He was a cattle farmer and an avid supporter of Broadway High School athletics.

Mr. Yancey was a member of the Timberville American Legion and a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Broadway, where he served in various capacities including a trustee.

On Dec. 31, 1934, he married the former Frances Miller, who preceded him in death Oct. 2, 2000.

Surviving are two sons, D. Peyton Yancey of Broadway, and Lee F. Yancey of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Steve Proctor will conduct a committal service 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Broadway with the Rev. Ed Shepherd officiating.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Broadway, 13902 Timber Way, Broadway, Va., 22815 or the Broadway Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 666, Broadway, Va.

The casket will be closed.
