Portland Born Boy Killed on Canadian Air Field.
Pilot Officer R.B. Klintworth was a resident of Portland, MI. He was killed a few days ago in an unusual accident at a flying field at Dunnville, Ontario.
Officer Klintworth was an instructor at the field and had just taken on a new class a day after graduation of a previous group. He was instructing in night operation and while on the field with the young men of his class, discovered that one of the signal lights along a runway was out. He took one of the recruits and went to correct the trouble, explaining that it would be one of the students duties hereafter to see that such lights were in order.
Both Officer Klintworth and the student were bending over the signal light when a plane landed on a runway near them. The machine suddenly veered to such an extent that the two men were struck by one of the wings and killed.
Officer Klintworth was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lehman of Portland. He received his training at Western Michigan College and he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 7, 1941.
